The Audi A2 e-tron price starts at €38,200 in Germany and rises to €51,200 for the range-topping 240 kW model, with order books opening on September 10, 2026 and first deliveries due in December. Unveiled by CEO Gernot Döllner in Paris on September 7, the compact electric hatchback revives the A2 name as Audi's new entry point to electric driving. Its headline claim is efficiency: at 12.8 kWh per 100 km on the WLTP cycle it is the most efficient Audi ever built, and with the largest battery it can travel up to 646 km on a charge.

Context and Background

The original Audi A2, sold between 1999 and 2005, was an aluminium-bodied efficiency pioneer that was ahead of its time and never a big seller. Audi is now reviving the badge for the electric era, positioning the A2 e-tron as a deliberately Europe-focused compact EV developed in Germany and built at the company's home plant in Ingolstadt. Audi frames the car as proof of its own renewal, having brought it to market 21 months faster than comparable previous models by reusing more than 1,200 existing production assets and around 250 robots already deployed on other lines. In the compact electric segment it lines up against cars such as the Cupra Born, Volkswagen ID.3, Renault Mégane E-Tech and the MINI Aceman.

How Much Does the Audi A2 e-tron Cost?

German pricing opens at €38,200 for the entry A2 e-tron 125 kW with the 52 kWh battery. The 61 kWh variant starts at €41,900, the 170 kW model with the 84 kWh battery costs €48,900, and the 240 kW flagship is priced at €51,200. Audi has confirmed pricing for the German market only at launch; other European prices and any right-hand-drive plans will follow closer to the December delivery date. In US dollar terms the range works out at roughly $44,000 to $60,000, though the A2 e-tron is not confirmed for North America.

Range, Efficiency and Charging

Efficiency is the whole point of the A2 e-tron. A class-leading drag coefficient of 0.24, a largely enclosed underbody, a controllable cooling-air intake, aero wheels and wheel-arch gap reducers all combine to cut consumption to 12.8 kWh per 100 km in the most efficient 140 kW configuration with the optional efficiency package. Rear-wheel drive and permanent-magnet synchronous motors do the rest. Battery choice runs from a 52 kWh pack to a 61 kWh pack, both using robust lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, up to an 84 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery reserved for the 170 kW and 240 kW versions. DC fast charging peaks at 183 kW on the big battery, taking it from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes, while the smaller LFP packs charge in 24 to 26 minutes. Bidirectional charging is optional, letting the car power external devices via Vehicle-to-Load or feed a home via Vehicle-to-Home in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Exterior

The A2 e-tron pairs short overhangs with a long 2.77-metre wheelbase and a gently sloping roofline that ends in a defined spoiler for clean airflow separation. A black-panel nose hides the sensors and headlights beneath slim daytime running lights, and horizontal LED tail-lights stretch across the full width of the rear. Fully electric, touch-sensitive door handles sit flush in the bodywork, and buyers can choose between a subtle base look in colours such as Horizon blue, Arrow gray and the new Pistachio green, or a sportier S line with more aggressive bumpers, black trim and a diffuser.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the cabin is built around the Softwrap, a soft fabric-covered surface that runs from the dashboard across the doors and into the rear. Standard kit includes the MMI panoramic display, combining an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit with a 12.8-inch curved touchscreen, plus an optional 1.6-square-metre panoramic glass roof. Audi is the first premium brand to fit the magnetic Fidlock fastening system as standard for modular storage, and a cooled wireless charging tray handles two phones at up to 25 watts. The boot holds 396 litres, expanding to 1,336 litres with the rear seats folded, and the 170 kW and 240 kW cars add a 13-litre frunk.

What It Means for Buyers

For buyers, the A2 e-tron is Audi's attempt to make a premium electric car that genuinely suits everyday European life rather than chasing headline power figures. The efficiency focus means more real-world range from smaller, cheaper batteries and fewer charging stops, while standard equipment normally reserved for larger cars, such as adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist and the curved twin displays, softens the sting of a starting price near €40,000. For the wider market, reviving the A2 as an efficiency-led entry EV signals that Audi sees intelligent use of energy and space, not just bigger batteries, as the next competitive battleground in the compact segment.
