Google Analytics is the one optional thing here, and it does not load until you allow it. Everything else we store — your theme, which articles you reacted to — stays in your browser.

PerfectCars ("we", "our", "us") is an independent automotive information service operated at www.perfectcars.net. We are not affiliated with any automobile manufacturer, dealership, or automotive media group. Our registered address is available on request via our contact form.
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the website. This includes: server log data automatically generated when you visit any page (IP address, browser type, pages visited, time of visit — retained for 30 days for security purposes); privacy-friendly page view and page speed measurements via Vercel Analytics, which sets no cookies and builds no profile of you; email addresses you voluntarily provide when subscribing to our newsletter; and the contents of messages submitted via our contact form. If — and only if — you allow it on the cookie banner, we also collect analytics via Google Analytics 4; see the next section. We do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers, or payment information unless you explicitly provide them in a contact form message.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which cars and articles are read, which tells us what to cover next. It is optional and switched off until you accept it: decline, and the Google script is never loaded, so nothing about your visit reaches Google. If you accept, Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_<id> cookies in your browser for up to two years, and your IP address, the pages you open and an approximate location are processed by Google, including on servers in the United States. You can withdraw that permission at any time on our Cookie Policy page, and the cookies are deleted the moment you do. Separately, we store your theme choice and which articles you have reacted to in your browser's local storage; that never leaves your device. Every item is listed individually on the Cookie Policy page.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We do not share your data with automobile manufacturers or dealers. We do not use social media tracking plugins. We do not show advertising and we set no advertising cookies. We do not build profiles of individual readers, and we never connect what you read to your identity.
If you subscribe to our weekly newsletter, we store your email address solely for the purpose of sending you that newsletter. We do not share subscriber lists with any third party. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every newsletter, or by contacting us via our contact form. Your email will be removed within 48 hours of your request.
When you use our contact form, the contents of your submission (name, email address, topic, and message) are sent to our editorial team via encrypted email. We retain contact form submissions for a maximum of 12 months, after which they are permanently deleted. We do not use contact form data for any purpose other than responding to your enquiry.
Under applicable data protection laws (including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR where applicable), you have the right to: request a copy of any personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate personal data; request deletion of your personal data; withdraw consent to processing at any time; lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We use industry-standard security measures to protect any personal data we hold. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to personal data is restricted to editorial staff who require it to fulfil their function. Despite these measures, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
